About Washable Dog Beds
Every dog bed gets dirty. What matters is what happens next. If the cover won't come off, or fights you going back on, it doesn't get washed, the smell settles in, and the bed goes in the bin while the inside is still fine. A washable dog bed is built so cleaning it is a job you'll actually do on a Sunday afternoon.
What makes a dog bed properly washable
- A cover that comes right off. The zipped covers on Ullswater, Tetbury, Wensleydale and Loweswater wash at 30°C. Grasmere has a full-zip cover that comes off whole.
- A core that stays dry. Foam never goes in the machine, so it's worth keeping the wet away from it. Nocturne has a waterproof inner membrane between the cover and the foam, so a spill or a wet coat stays off the foam.
- A cover that dries. Air-dry fully before refitting. Some labels, such as Loweswater's, say not to tumble dry.
Washable dog beds by how they sleep
Washability shouldn't decide the shape. Start with the dog.
- If they lean: Ullswater, with four bolstered sides and a non-slip base, up to 127 × 94cm, or Grasmere, a memory foam dog sofa with three cushioned arms, Medium to XXL. More edges are among our bolster dog beds.
- If they curl and burrow: Loweswater with its sherpa-fleece cushion, XS to XL; Rydal with high cushioned walls and a fleece sleeping surface; or Wensleydale, a deep fibre-filled nest.
- If they curl first and stretch later: Nocturne, an open-sided bolster bed with egg-crate foam, in 91 × 69cm and 107 × 76cm.
- If they switch with the seasons: Duddon, 80 × 80cm, with teddy fleece on one face and canvas on the other, best for dogs who curl or lie diagonally.
Fibre or foam, and what that means on wash day
Fibre-filled beds such as Ullswater, Wensleydale, Rydal and Kentmere are soft by design; the cover washes and the bed stays yielding rather than firm. Foam beds like Grasmere, Nocturne and Ennerdale give firmer support; the cover washes, the foam never does. If your dog needs support and comes home wet, choose foam with a waterproof layer.
100 nights, wash days included
A few muddy weeks will tell you whether the wash-day routine works for your house. The beds here come with the 100-night sleep trial: within 100 nights, if it isn't right, we arrange free UK mainland collection and a full refund. One trial per household; damage and other exclusions apply. The Whinlatter car seat in this collection is a travel accessory, so check its returns terms before ordering rather than assuming the trial applies. Free standard UK delivery on orders over £40.
Washable dog bed questions
What temperature should I wash a dog bed cover at?
Whatever its sewn-in label says. Several covers here are listed for 30°C. Air-dry fully before refitting. Our care and washing guide covers drying, smells and when to replace.
Can I put the whole bed in the washing machine?
Not a foam bed: never wash or soak the foam. On fibre-filled beds, wash only the parts the care label allows.
Washable or waterproof: which do I need?
Washable means the mess comes out afterwards. Waterproof means it doesn't get in. For a dog who comes back soaked or has the odd accident, look for both, and see our waterproof dog beds.
Still deciding? The Bed Finder asks a few questions, sleep style first, and suggests one bed.
The 100-night trial

At our risk, not yours.

-
Night 1
It arrives
Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top.
-
Night 30
Give them time
Plenty of dogs claim a new bed the first evening. Some take a fortnight and a familiar blanket on top. Both are normal.
-
Night 100

Any time inside the 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.
It doesn't need to be unused. Send it back slept-on, hair and all.

Before you decide
The questions we get asked most.
Something we haven't covered? Ask us
How do I know which size to get?
Measure nose to base of tail while they are lying down, then add 15–20cm. Where a dog falls between two sizes, go up: sprawlers need the length more than you would think. Every product page has a size guide built from that bed's own measurements, with breed examples.
What does 50kg/m³ actually mean?
It is how much foam is packed into every cubic metre. Density and firmness are not the same thing: a low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six. High-density foam keeps its structure under repeated weight, which is why a 50kg/m³ core is still supporting hips and elbows years later.
You'll find it in the orthopaedic beds. The fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness instead, and each product page says which is which.
Can I actually wash it?
On most of the range, yes: properly, not just spot-clean. Covers zip off and go straight in the machine at 30°C, and on the orthopaedic beds a waterproof inner liner keeps wet coats, muddy paws and accidents away from the foam.
One exception worth knowing before you buy: waterproof-fabric beds are wiped clean rather than washed with detergent, because detergent strips the coating off the fabric. Every product page says which applies.
How quickly will it arrive?
Orders go out on working days, tracked from the moment they leave us. Order by 3pm on a dispatch day and it goes the same day; most then arrive within 1–3 working days. Tracking comes by email as soon as it's on its way.
Delivery is free on UK orders over £40. Below that, the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.
What if my dog just won't use it?
Then it comes back. Let your dog sleep on it for up to 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny. Just tell us inside that window. It doesn't need to be unused: send it back slept-on, hair and all. Full terms are in our returns policy.
What does the 5-year guarantee cover?
The foam. Every memory foam bed carries a 5-year guarantee on its core: if it loses its structure under normal use in that time, which is the failure that ends most dog beds, we'll replace it. Covers, zips and liners are wearing parts and sit outside it, and the fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness rather than covered by the foam guarantee. Full terms are in our returns policy.
Will it help a dog with arthritis or stiff hips?
A supportive bed spreads their weight so pressure isn't concentrated on hips, elbows and shoulders, which is what makes lying down and getting back up harder for a dog with joint wear. But a bed is not a treatment and it won't replace veterinary care, so please keep talking to your vet. What it can change is the surface they spend twelve to fourteen hours a day on.
