About Dog Sofa Beds
A dog sofa bed is for an evening routine you probably know well: curtains shut, telly on, the dog on the floor staring at you until they give up and climb onto your sofa. It is not naughtiness. Your sofa has the soft seat, the armrest and the company. A sofa bed gives them all three on a seat of their own, close enough to hear you move.
Choosing a dog sofa bed by how they rest
- If they keep watch, head up: Haweswater has raised sofa-style sides to prop a chin on. Esthwaite and Bowfell use an L-shaped bolster along two sides, so their back is covered and the room stays in view.
- If they lean and flop: Grasmere has three cushioned arms and an open front, in four sizes from 80 × 60cm to 135 × 100cm.
- If they curl up tight: Skelwith is bolstered on all four sides around a fleece middle, at 76 × 51cm.
- If it has to look like furniture: Windsor is upholstered, with piped seams, furniture-weight fabric, a back and two arms, in Blue, Green, Brown or Grey.
Want the arm without the furniture look? Our bolster dog beds do the same job more simply.
For stiff mornings: a lower way in
Often the first thing you notice is not a limp but a hesitation at the edge of the bed. Newlands, Easedale and Burnmoor keep a bolster on all four sides but drop the front section, so they step in rather than climb. Braithwaite cuts one corner open, chaise-style. These four use profiled egg-crate foam, which spreads weight rather than compressing flat, with a waterproof liner or lining around the foam for wet coats and accidents. Grasmere, Haweswater, Windsor and Skelwith use memory foam, and their foam cores carry a 5-year no-flatten guarantee, subject to the guarantee terms. For more low-entry shapes, see our orthopaedic dog beds. A sofa bed is about comfort, not treatment; for pain or stiffness, keep talking to your vet.
Sizes from small dogs to giants
Braithwaite, Skelwith and Newlands suit small and medium dogs. For big dogs, Easedale and Scafell are 106.5 × 81.5cm, Bowfell 122 × 91cm, and Burnmoor 132 × 104cm and 20cm deep. The arms sit inside the outside footprint, so check the seat they will actually lie on against their length lying flat, plus 15 to 20cm. Between sizes, go up.
100 nights on a seat of their own
Every sofa bed here is covered by the 100-night trial from delivery. If they still prefer your sofa after a fair try, we arrange free UK mainland collection and a full refund, with one trial per household and damage and other exclusions applying. Standard UK delivery is free on orders over £40. The trial in full.
Dog sofa bed questions
Will my dog stay off my sofa if they have their own?
Nobody can honestly promise that. What a sofa bed does is offer the same three things, an arm, a soft seat and a view of you, so they have a good reason to stay on theirs. Haweswater and Grasmere are both sized to sit right beside your chair.
Can I wash a dog sofa bed?
On most of these the cover comes off; wash it following the sewn-in label and never wash or soak the foam. Where there is a liner, wipe it, then let everything air-dry fully before refitting.
Which dog sofa bed is easiest to get into?
The ones with a lowered front, Newlands, Easedale and Burnmoor, or Grasmere, whose open front has nothing to step over at all.
Not sure which of these suits them? The Bed Finder decides from how they sleep.
The 100-night trial
Try it for 100 nights.
At our risk, not yours.
Tell us how they get on. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.
-
Night 1
It arrives
Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top.
-
Night 30
Give them time
Plenty of dogs claim a new bed the first evening. Some take a fortnight and a familiar blanket on top. Both are normal.
-
Night 100
Not right? Tell us
Any time inside the 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.
It doesn't need to be unused. Send it back slept-on, hair and all.
Every memory foam bed also carries the 5-year foam guarantee.
Before you decide
The questions we get asked most.
Something we haven't covered? Ask us
How do I know which size to get?
Measure nose to base of tail while they are lying down, then add 15–20cm. Where a dog falls between two sizes, go up: sprawlers need the length more than you would think. Every product page has a size guide built from that bed's own measurements, with breed examples.
What does 50kg/m³ actually mean?
It is how much foam is packed into every cubic metre. Density and firmness are not the same thing: a low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six. High-density foam keeps its structure under repeated weight, which is why a 50kg/m³ core is still supporting hips and elbows years later.
You'll find it in the orthopaedic beds. The fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness instead, and each product page says which is which.
Can I actually wash it?
On most of the range, yes: properly, not just spot-clean. Covers zip off and go straight in the machine at 30°C, and on the orthopaedic beds a waterproof inner liner keeps wet coats, muddy paws and accidents away from the foam.
One exception worth knowing before you buy: waterproof-fabric beds are wiped clean rather than washed with detergent, because detergent strips the coating off the fabric. Every product page says which applies.
How quickly will it arrive?
Orders go out on working days, tracked from the moment they leave us. Order by 3pm on a dispatch day and it goes the same day; most then arrive within 1–3 working days. Tracking comes by email as soon as it's on its way.
Delivery is free on UK orders over £40. Below that, the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.
What if my dog just won't use it?
Then it comes back. Let your dog sleep on it for up to 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny. Just tell us inside that window. It doesn't need to be unused: send it back slept-on, hair and all. Full terms are in our returns policy.
What does the 5-year guarantee cover?
The foam. Every memory foam bed carries a 5-year guarantee on its core: if it loses its structure under normal use in that time, which is the failure that ends most dog beds, we'll replace it. Covers, zips and liners are wearing parts and sit outside it, and the fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness rather than covered by the foam guarantee. Full terms are in our returns policy.
Will it help a dog with arthritis or stiff hips?
A supportive bed spreads their weight so pressure isn't concentrated on hips, elbows and shoulders, which is what makes lying down and getting back up harder for a dog with joint wear. But a bed is not a treatment and it won't replace veterinary care, so please keep talking to your vet. What it can change is the surface they spend twelve to fourteen hours a day on.
