About Outdoor Dog Houses & Day Beds

If you're in the garden, so are they. Pottering while you weed, flat out by your chair on the first bright afternoon, keeping an eye on the gate. What they want is a spot of their own, off the wet grass and in the shade, close enough to keep watching you. These outdoor dog houses and day beds are for exactly that: supervised time outside together, not a place to leave them.

Two kinds of outdoor dog house

  • Kennels with a raised floor, for damp ground. Blencathra lifts the floor clear of wet grass, with a sloped shell and arched doorway that help rain run off and ventilation to let air through. Bedding is not included. Keswick also has a raised floor, plus an access ramp up to the entrance instead of a step.
  • Day beds with a canopy, for dry-weather lounging. Henley has a woven frame, a slanted canopy and an included cushion, and works in a bright conservatory in winter. Torver is a raised woven day bed with a canopy and a cushion. Both also sit among our luxury dog beds, for the look.

How to choose a dog kennel or day bed

  • If your lawn is wet most of the year: a raised-floor kennel, Blencathra or Keswick.
  • If they find a step awkward: Keswick's ramp, checked against your dog first.
  • If it is for a patio or decking on dry days: a canopy day bed, Henley or Torver.
  • If it is for indoors on warm days: a raised mesh bed from our elevated and cooling dog beds.

Then size. Exact dimensions aren't listed on these product pages, so please contact us before ordering. Check the internal resting area, the entrance height and the supported load: your dog should be able to walk in, stand, turn and lie down comfortably.

Using them safely

Supervise your dog, provide drinking water and safe shade, and move them indoors in extreme weather. A raised bed, canopy or kennel does not prevent overheating. The day beds are shade, not shelter, so bring the cushions under cover when you go in. None of these replaces a warm bed indoors.

Looking after them

The plastic shells on Blencathra and Keswick, and the woven frames on Henley and Torver, wipe down with a damp cloth and mild soap. Follow the separate care label for any cushion, store soft furnishings under cover, and let every part dry before use.

Returns on outdoor products

These are not part of the 100-night sleep trial, and we would rather you knew that up front. Outdoor dog houses and day beds have a 30-day change-of-mind window, with return at your cost. Your statutory rights are unaffected. Free standard UK delivery on orders over £40. Full details are on our delivery and returns page.

Outdoor dog house questions

Can my dog live in an outdoor kennel?

These aren't made for that. They're for supervised garden time in suitable conditions, and your dog should come indoors in extreme weather. Blencathra's own description puts it plainly: it is not a replacement for a warm bed indoors.

Is bedding included?

Henley and Torver come with a cushion. Blencathra does not include bedding. For Keswick, ask us before you order.

Are these dog houses weatherproof?

We don't describe them that way. Blencathra's sloped shell and arched doorway help rain run off, and both kennels have raised floors to keep them off wet ground. The day beds give shade, not shelter.

The 100-night trial

Try it for 100 nights.
At our risk, not yours.

Tell us how they get on. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.

  1. Night 1

    It arrives

Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top.

  2. Night 30

    Give them time

Plenty of dogs claim a new bed the first evening. Some take a fortnight and a familiar blanket on top. Both are normal.

  3. Night 100

    Not right? Tell us

Any time inside the 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.

It doesn't need to be unused. Send it back slept-on, hair and all.

Every memory foam bed also carries the 5-year foam guarantee.

Before you decide

The questions we get asked most.

Something we haven't covered? Ask us

How do I know which size to get?

Measure nose to base of tail while they are lying down, then add 15–20cm. Where a dog falls between two sizes, go up: sprawlers need the length more than you would think. Every product page has a size guide built from that bed's own measurements, with breed examples.

What does 50kg/m³ actually mean?

It is how much foam is packed into every cubic metre. Density and firmness are not the same thing: a low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six. High-density foam keeps its structure under repeated weight, which is why a 50kg/m³ core is still supporting hips and elbows years later.

You'll find it in the orthopaedic beds. The fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness instead, and each product page says which is which.

Can I actually wash it?

On most of the range, yes: properly, not just spot-clean. Covers zip off and go straight in the machine at 30°C, and on the orthopaedic beds a waterproof inner liner keeps wet coats, muddy paws and accidents away from the foam.

One exception worth knowing before you buy: waterproof-fabric beds are wiped clean rather than washed with detergent, because detergent strips the coating off the fabric. Every product page says which applies.

How quickly will it arrive?

Orders go out on working days, tracked from the moment they leave us. Order by 3pm on a dispatch day and it goes the same day; most then arrive within 1–3 working days. Tracking comes by email as soon as it's on its way.

Delivery is free on UK orders over £40. Below that, the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.

What if my dog just won't use it?

Then it comes back. Let your dog sleep on it for up to 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny. Just tell us inside that window. It doesn't need to be unused: send it back slept-on, hair and all. Full terms are in our returns policy.

What does the 5-year guarantee cover?

The foam. Every memory foam bed carries a 5-year guarantee on its core: if it loses its structure under normal use in that time, which is the failure that ends most dog beds, we'll replace it. Covers, zips and liners are wearing parts and sit outside it, and the fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness rather than covered by the foam guarantee. Full terms are in our returns policy.

Will it help a dog with arthritis or stiff hips?

A supportive bed spreads their weight so pressure isn't concentrated on hips, elbows and shoulders, which is what makes lying down and getting back up harder for a dog with joint wear. But a bed is not a treatment and it won't replace veterinary care, so please keep talking to your vet. What it can change is the surface they spend twelve to fourteen hours a day on.
