They've started choosing the floor.
Once foam has bottomed out, cold tiles genuinely are the firmer, flatter option. A dog picking the kitchen floor over their own bed has done the comparison and reached a conclusion.
There's a dip that doesn't spring back.
Press a flat hand into the middle where they lie. If you can feel the floor through it, so can their hips and elbows.
A bed can't undo ageing. What it can change is how much effort goes into lying down, and how much goes into getting back up.

What's inside the orthopaedic beds
Foam, not filling.
A lot of dog beds are filled with loose fibre or shredded offcuts. They feel plump in the shop and are flat by March, at which point your dog is sleeping on the floor with a cover over it.
Our orthopaedic beds are built on foam instead. On many, memory foam on top contours to hip and shoulder while a profiled egg-crate layer underneath spreads their weight, so it doesn't compress to the floor.

What a bed can change, and what it can't.
A bed is for comfort; it isn't a treatment. If your dog is in pain, recovering, or finding it hard to move, that's a conversation with your vet first. What the right shape and filling can change is effort: how much goes into lying down, and how much into getting back up. Foam that spreads their weight keeps hips and elbows off the floor. A low front means stepping in, not climbing over. A non-slip base stops the bed sliding on a smooth floor.
Three things worth asking at the next check-up
- Is the slower first step stiffness, or something that needs looking at?
- Would a lower step-in or a firmer surface help them get up?
- Is their weight where it should be? Extra kilos make every rise harder.

How do I know which size to get?
Measure nose to base of tail while they're lying down, then add about 20cm. Between two sizes? Go up. Every bed's page lists the sleeping area, and the size guide has breed examples. Still unsure? Send us their breed and weight and we'll tell you honestly which size fits.
What's inside, and isn't firmer better?
It depends on the bed, so each page says exactly what's inside: memory foam, egg-crate foam, crumb memory foam, fibre or mesh. Firmness is only how a bed feels on day one. What matters is whether it holds its shape in month six, which is why the orthopaedic beds are built on foam rather than loose filling. What's inside our beds explains each one.
What if my dog just won't use it?

Will it help a dog with arthritis or stiff hips?

Can I actually wash it?
On most of the range the cover comes off and washes, following the care label sewn into it. Beds with a coated, waterproof cover are wiped clean instead. Foam is never machine washed. The care guide covers covers, liners and the smell that creeps in by February.
