About Nest & Donut Dog Beds
A nest dog bed is for the dog who settles by curling up: a few turns, nose tucked under a back leg, spine pressed against whatever is closest, which is often the corner of your sofa. Nest and donut dog beds give them that edge all the way round, so whichever way they turn there is a wall to lean into and a soft middle to sink into.
Choosing a nest or donut dog bed
- If they burrow out of sight: high, deep sides to get behind, on Rydal, Windermere and Elterwater.
- If they rest a chin on the edge: a rim rather than a wall, on Blea Tarn, Sawrey and Harewood.
- If they lean hard into the side: Thirlmere's walls are structured felt, so they stand up on their own instead of folding flat night after night.
- If they come home wet: the Crummock Waterproof Nest keeps high sides under a coated outer that wipes clean.
Then pick the surface they will feel first: sherpa on Windermere and Sawrey, fleece on Rydal, velvet on Harewood, cream bouclé on Blea Tarn, and herringbone outside a lift-out inner cushion on the Crummock Herringbone Nest.
Soft or supportive: what is inside
Many nests are built for softness rather than support. Rydal and Wensleydale are fibre-filled and Blea Tarn soft-filled, yielding rather than firm, and that is the point: they are for sinking into. If your curler is older or stiffer, two nests here put memory foam underneath. Elterwater has a lift-out crumb memory foam cushion with a waterproof layer under the cover. Skelwith closes all four sides around memory foam over an egg-crate layer, and its foam core carries a 5-year no-flatten guarantee, subject to the guarantee terms. For firmer support across a wider choice, see our memory foam dog beds. A bed is for comfort, not a treatment; for a dog in pain, keep talking to your vet.
Sizing a nest around a curled-up dog
Walls eat into the footprint, so measure your dog curled up rather than stretched out, and size up if they fall between two. Sizes run from an XS at 45 × 35cm on Sawrey up to XXL on Rydal. For the smallest curlers, our small dog beds start lower still.
100 nights to see if they settle
Some curlers take a few nights to claim a new nest. Every nest here comes with a 100-night trial from delivery, and if they will not settle in it, we arrange free UK mainland collection and a full refund; one trial per household, and damage and other exclusions apply. Standard UK delivery is free on orders over £40. Read how the trial works.
Nest bed questions
What is the difference between a nest and a donut dog bed?
Mostly the name. Both mean a raised wall all the way round a soft middle; donut usually describes a round one. Wall height and filling matter far more than the label.
Are nest beds washable?
Most have a zipped cover that comes off, and on Blea Tarn, Sawrey, Harewood and Wensleydale it washes at 30°C. Thirlmere's felt structure must not be machine washed, and on the Crummock Waterproof Nest, check the label first, because detergent can affect some waterproof finishes.
My dog curls up but sometimes sprawls. Is a nest still right?
If they stretch out as often as they curl, an edge on three sides may suit them better than four. Our bolster dog beds give them something to lean on without enclosing every side.

The 100-night trial
Try it for 100 nights.
At our risk, not yours.

-
Night 1
It arrives
Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top.
-
Night 30
Give them time
Plenty of dogs claim a new bed the first evening. Some take a fortnight and a familiar blanket on top. Both are normal.

Any time inside the 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny.
It doesn't need to be unused. Send it back slept-on, hair and all.

Before you decide
The questions we get asked most.
Something we haven't covered? Ask us
How do I know which size to get?
Measure nose to base of tail while they are lying down, then add 15–20cm. Where a dog falls between two sizes, go up: sprawlers need the length more than you would think. Every product page has a size guide built from that bed's own measurements, with breed examples.
What does 50kg/m³ actually mean?
It is how much foam is packed into every cubic metre. Density and firmness are not the same thing: a low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six. High-density foam keeps its structure under repeated weight, which is why a 50kg/m³ core is still supporting hips and elbows years later.
You'll find it in the orthopaedic beds. The fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness instead, and each product page says which is which.
Can I actually wash it?
On most of the range, yes: properly, not just spot-clean. Covers zip off and go straight in the machine at 30°C, and on the orthopaedic beds a waterproof inner liner keeps wet coats, muddy paws and accidents away from the foam.
One exception worth knowing before you buy: waterproof-fabric beds are wiped clean rather than washed with detergent, because detergent strips the coating off the fabric. Every product page says which applies.
How quickly will it arrive?
Orders go out on working days, tracked from the moment they leave us. Order by 3pm on a dispatch day and it goes the same day; most then arrive within 1–3 working days. Tracking comes by email as soon as it's on its way.
Delivery is free on UK orders over £40. Below that, the delivery charge is shown at checkout before you pay.
What if my dog just won't use it?
Then it comes back. Let your dog sleep on it for up to 100 nights. If it isn't right, we collect it free and refund every penny. Just tell us inside that window. It doesn't need to be unused: send it back slept-on, hair and all. Full terms are in our returns policy.
What does the 5-year guarantee cover?
The foam. Every memory foam bed carries a 5-year guarantee on its core: if it loses its structure under normal use in that time, which is the failure that ends most dog beds, we'll replace it. Covers, zips and liners are wearing parts and sit outside it, and the fibre-filled nest beds are built for softness rather than covered by the foam guarantee. Full terms are in our returns policy.
Will it help a dog with arthritis or stiff hips?
A supportive bed spreads their weight so pressure isn't concentrated on hips, elbows and shoulders, which is what makes lying down and getting back up harder for a dog with joint wear. But a bed is not a treatment and it won't replace veterinary care, so please keep talking to your vet. What it can change is the surface they spend twelve to fourteen hours a day on.
