How to choose a bed for a dachshund
A nest to burrow into
Many dachshunds sleep curled up and pressed against something. The sherpa Windermere (Small, 50 × 40cm) and the velvet Harewood (Small, 46 × 36cm) have cushioned sides to tuck against, and the Sawrey starts at XS (45 × 35cm). See all donut and nest dog beds.
A flatter foam base
If you would rather a flatter, more even base than a soft nest, look at foam. The Coniston is a low oval memory foam bed with an easy step-in edge (Small, 61 × 51cm), and the Chatsworth puts a crumb memory foam base inside cushioned bolster walls. See all memory foam dog beds.
What size bed does a dachshund need?
Measure yours lying down, nose to the base of the tail, and add 15 to 20cm. Many dachshunds land in our smaller sizes, but go by the measurement, and on a nest bed compare it with the space inside the sides. See all small dog beds.
Can a dachshund use dog stairs?
Many can. The Kirkstone foam dog stairs give them five soft steps up to the sofa or bed, so they can come up and get down without the jump. If you have any concern about your dog's back, speak to your vet.
