Choosing Tweed & Country Dog Beds: what to look for
How to choose a tweed or country dog bed
Tweed, herringbone, tartan or houndstooth?
The Patterdale is brown herringbone tweed with a faux-fur sleeping surface and leather handles. The Hawkshead mattress and the Crummock nest are grey herringbone. The Eskdale bolster is tartan, with a waterproof layer inside for muddy days, and the Kentmere is houndstooth. For a plainer country look, the Loweswater and the Seathwaite are green stonewashed fabric with sherpa to lie on.
Looks are half of it
A bed you like the look of stays in the room where your dog wants to be. The other half is what is inside. The Patterdale has a foam core; the Hawkshead and the Kentmere are soft fibre filled, so they are cosy rather than firm. If your dog needs firm support, see orthopaedic dog beds. Can these beds be washed?
The covers on the Patterdale, the Hawkshead and the Kentmere come off to wash. Follow the sewn-in care label, and note that leather handles have their own care instructions. Check each product page before you wash anything.
