How to choose a medium dog bed

What size is a medium dog bed?

There is no standard, which is why Medium means something different on every bed. Ours run from about 61 × 44cm in a snug bolster to 100 × 65cm in an open mattress, so go by the centimetres, not the label. Measure your dog lying on their side, nose to the base of the tail, and add 15 to 20cm.

Choose by how they sleep

Curlers suit a donut or nest dog bed. Leaners suit a bolster dog bed, or a dog sofa bed like the Grasmere, which starts at Medium (80 × 60cm). Sprawlers suit a dog mattress: the memory foam Ambleside starts at Medium (82 × 70cm).

What breeds need a medium dog bed?

As a guide, dogs of about 10 to 25kg: Cocker and Springer Spaniels, Border Collies and Staffies. Always measure, because a long-legged sprawler may need a Large.
