Brotherswater XL Elevated Mesh Bolster Dog Bed for Large Dogs

Off the cold kitchen floor, with somewhere to lean.

Edge to edge foam means our dog uses the whole bed. Very good.

Our Dachshund has a history of spinal issues, so stepping over raised edges was a risk. The Ambleside edge-to-edge bed is completely flat. She walks straight on and the memory foam supports her long spine evenly without pressure points.

A big dog on cold tiles, and nowhere to lean.

Brotherswater is an elevated mesh dog bed for large dogs with three bolstered sides, on a powder-coated steel frame with non-slip rubber feet, in one size, XL (150 × 95cm). It snaps together without tools.

You have seen it. A big dog in a cold kitchen or a flagstone utility room, lying on the floor because nothing in the house is long enough for them, chin flat on the tiles. They get up, circle, and lie back down on the same cold patch. Then in July the same dog is stretched on that floor because it is the coolest place they can find, and still nothing fits. Raised beds get called summer beds, but the idea works in winter too.

The floor is the one part of that you can change this week. Brotherswater lifts them clear of it on a 150 × 95cm mesh deck with bolsters on three sides, so there is somewhere a big dog can lie full length and still lean. In winter a blanket goes on top and they are off the coldest surface in the house. In summer the blanket comes off and the same bed is a cool one. It is for the owner who decided that one of the biggest dogs in the street should not have to make do with the floor.

    At a glance

    • Type: Elevated mesh dog bed with three bolstered sides and one open side.
    • Size: XL, 150 × 95cm deck, 23cm tall overall. One size.
    • Frame: Powder-coated steel.
    • Feet: Non-slip rubber feet, for tiles, laminate or decking.
    • Assembly: Snaps together without tools.
    • Best for: Large and giant breeds who run hot but still want something to lean against.
    • Care: Wipe or rinse the mesh and frame and let it dry fully.
    • Trial: 100 nights at home, with free UK mainland collection if it is not right.

What is inside, layer by layer

Start at the floor. The feet are rubber and non-slip. They sit on tiles, laminate or decking and keep the frame where you put it when a big dog climbs on or drops down.

Above the feet is the frame, powder-coated steel. Steel, because this bed is carrying a large or giant breed every day and every night. Powder-coated, because the coating is a finish over the metal that you can wipe or rinse down and let dry, in the kitchen in winter or out in the garden in summer.

The frame holds the deck: 150 × 95cm of mesh, raised clear of the floor. Mesh is the whole idea of an elevated bed. There is air under them, so heat moves away instead of building up beneath their body. The same gap means they are not pressed against a cold floor in winter either.

On three sides of the deck are bolsters. They give a big dog a rest for their chin, a back to lean into, or a side to flop against. The fourth side is open, so there is nothing to step over on the way in.

The seasonal change is a blanket. Lay their favourite one over the mesh on cold nights. Take it off when the weather turns warm. Nothing else about the bed changes.

    What changes for them

    • Full length at last: A 150 × 95cm deck, one of the largest beds we sell.
    • Off the coldest surface in the house: The mesh deck sits clear of the floor.
    • Cool when they run hot: Air moves under the mesh, so heat moves away instead of building up.
    • Somewhere to lean: Bolsters on three sides, for a chin, a back or a sideways flop.
    • It stays put: Non-slip rubber feet on tiles, laminate or decking.
    • One bed for two seasons: Blanket on in winter, blanket off in summer.

Best for: Large and giant breeds who run hot but still want something to lean against.

Not for: Small and medium dogs, who will be lost on a 150 × 95cm deck. Dogs who want to sink into something soft, because there is no foam or filling in the deck, it is mesh on a frame. Dogs who dig at or chew bedding. If that is your dog, message us first and we will tell you honestly which bed stands a chance.

Why it costs what it costs

The money went on the frame and the footprint. A deck 150 × 95cm across needs a frame that will carry a large or giant breed night after night, and that is powder-coated steel on non-slip rubber feet, not something that skids across the tiles the first time they jump on. Then three bolsters, so it is a bed to lean in rather than a bare platform, and snap-together assembly so there is nothing to find a screwdriver for.

You are buying one bed that covers summer in the garden and winter in a warm kitchen, instead of two that each do half the job. Every night you wait is another night on the tiles, and a dog who has never had a bed long enough for them does not know to ask for one. Brotherswater is £159, and it is the one bed for both seasons. You are not gambling that either. You have 100 nights at home to decide, and if they do not take to it we collect it free from the UK mainland and refund you in full.

    Size and fit

    Size Dimensions (cm)
    XL 150 × 95

Measure your dog lying on their side, nose to base of tail, and add 15 to 20cm. The 150 × 95cm is the outside measurement of the deck, and the bolsters on three sides take up part of it, so the open sleeping space is smaller than the number. A dog who measures 110cm lying on their side needs 125 to 130cm, which is why a bed this size exists. A dog who measures 60cm will rattle around on it. The bed stands 23cm tall overall, so check they are happy stepping up that far. Message us their breed and weight and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.

    The first week

Put it where they already sleep, not where you would like them to sleep, and keep it on a level surface so the feet sit flat. Lay a blanket that smells of home over the mesh for the first few nights. Do not lift them onto it or coax them. Let them find it, open side towards the room. Some dogs claim a new bed the first night. Some walk past it for a fortnight and then never leave it. If it goes out in the garden in summer, keep it in the shade with water nearby. If yours is still choosing the floor after a couple of weeks, move the bed to the spot they keep going back to and try again. The 100 nights are there for the ones who never do.

    Straight answers

    Will my dog fit?

Measure them lying on their side, nose to base of tail, and add 15 to 20cm. The deck is 150 × 95cm outside and the bolsters take part of that. If you are not sure, message us their breed and weight and we will tell you honestly whether it fits.

    How do I clean it?

Wipe or rinse the mesh and frame and let it dry fully. Check the feet and joints occasionally, and keep it on a level surface.

Is it soft, and will it sag?

There is no foam or filling in the deck. It is mesh on a powder-coated steel frame, which is what lets air move underneath. If your dog wants to sink into something, this is the wrong bed and we would rather say so now. In winter, lay a blanket on top.

    Does it need tools?

No. It snaps together without tools.

    Can it go outside?

The feet are made for decking as well as tiles and laminate, and the frame and mesh wipe or rinse down, so in summer it is a garden bed. In winter it belongs in the warm kitchen. Keep it on a level surface wherever it goes.

Does it have sides all the way round?

No. The bolsters are on three sides and the fourth is open, which is the way in. If your dog wants a wall on every side, this is not that bed. It comes in one size, XL, and that is the whole range.

    What if they ignore it?

Some dogs claim a new bed the first night, some take a fortnight. Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top, and leave them to it. If it still is not theirs inside 100 nights, we collect it free from the UK mainland and refund you in full.

    When will it arrive?

You will see the dates above the button before you order.

    Everyday care

    Guarantee

The 5-year foam guarantee covers the memory foam core of every PawLunova memory foam bed. If the core loses its shape under normal domestic use within 5 years, we replace it. Whether this bed is covered is shown in the "Included with this bed" list above.

Covers, zips, liners, waterproof layers, bolsters, fibre filling and non-slip bases are wearing parts and aren't included. Nor is damage from chewing, scratching, tearing or accidents, foam damaged by liquid (including urine) or by washing, softening that recovers when the bed is empty, or commercial use.

    Why the Brotherswater

What the Brotherswater does for them.

Off the cold kitchen floor, with somewhere to lean. A 150 × 95cm raised mesh deck with three bolsters.

    • Best for: Big dogs who run hot.
    • Non-slip base, so it stays put on wood and tile.
    • Made in Yorkshire.
    Before you add it

Is the Brotherswater right for your dog?

Honest answers now beat a return later. Here's who this bed is for, and who it isn't.

    Yes, if

    • They've started taking a moment to get up in the morning.
    • They've started choosing the floor over their old bed, or circling and resettling on it.
    • You've already paid for a bed that went flat, and you'd rather not do it twice.
    • Made with big dogs who run hot in mind.

    Think twice if

    • They chew beds. Nothing on this site is chew-proof, and covers sit outside the guarantee.
    • You're guessing the size. Don't: measure them lying down against the size cards above, or send us a photo.
    • They get up stiff. This is a mesh bed, soft rather than supportive, so a foam bed will do more for them.

    Straight answers

    • A bed is for comfort, not a treatment. If they're in pain, your vet comes first, and we'll never tell you otherwise.
    • Every size is in centimetres. Where a measurement is the outside rather than the sleeping area, the page says so.
    • 100 nights to decide, slept on. If it isn't right, tell us and it comes back, collected free from the UK mainland, refunded in full.
    Straight answer

    Soft, not firm.

The Brotherswater is a Mesh bed: soft to sink into rather than supportive underneath, and it isn't under the foam guarantee. For a dog who gets up stiff, a foam bed will do more for them. For a dog who wants somewhere soft, this is it. The 100-night trial applies either way.

Inside the Brotherswater, top to bottom

    1. Cover

Follow the care label sewn into it.

    2. Mesh

Soft filling. Not under the foam guarantee; the 100-night trial still applies.

    3. Non-slip base

Grips wood and tile, so the bed stays where you put it.

    Wet coats, accidents and washing

The bit nobody mentions until February.

A bed that can't be washed is a bed you'll throw away. Here's how the Brotherswater stays a bed you'd let in the living room.

    Washing it

Follow the care label sewn into the cover. Foam is never machine washed. Care guide.

    Accidents and wet dogs

The Brotherswater is not listed with a waterproof liner, so treat it as having none. If accidents are likely, keep a second cover ready and ask us before you order.

One on the bed, one in the wash

Ask us about a spare cover before you order. A second cover means the bed is never out of action on wash day.

If it arrives rolled or vacuum-packed, unroll it somewhere ventilated and give it a few hours to come back to full depth before they try it.

    The 100-night trial

100 nights to be sure. At our risk, not yours.

Nobody expects a trial on a dog bed. We think it's the only honest way to sell one, because a bed only proves itself at 2am.

    1. Night 1

      It arrives

Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top.

    2. Night 50

      Give them time

Plenty of dogs claim a new bed the first evening. Some take a fortnight. Both are normal, and you've got 100.

    3. Night 100

      Not right? Tell us

Any time inside the 100 nights. We collect it free from the UK mainland and refund every penny.

It doesn't need to be unused. Send it back slept on, hair and all.

A few products aren't part of the trial. Where that's the case, the product page says so before you buy.

    Before you add it

Questions about this bed, in your words.

How do I know which size to get?

Measure nose to base of tail while they're lying down, then add about 20cm. Between two sizes? Go up. The size cards above list the sleeping area where we've measured it. Still unsure? Send us their breed and weight.

    What size for a Labrador?

Most adult Labradors need the Large or the XL, and a sprawler needs the bigger of the two. Measure them lying stretched out, nose to base of tail, add about 20cm, and compare with the sleeping area on the size cards. If that lands between two sizes, go up: a bed that's slightly too big is never the problem, one that's too small always is.

Will it actually be memory foam, or that egg-crate stuff?

The "What's inside" card above says exactly what's in this bed: the core type and, where we've measured it, the depth and the density. If it's memory foam over egg-crate foam, it says so. If it's fibre, it says so. We'd rather you knew now than in month three.

What if my dog just won't use it?

Then it comes back. Put it where they already sleep, with a blanket that smells of home on top. If after a fortnight it still isn't right, tell us any time inside the 100 nights and we collect it free from the UK mainland and refund every penny.

He's not a 'bed dog'. He'd rather have the floor.

A dog who picks the kitchen floor over his bed has usually done the comparison: the floor is flatter and firmer than a bed that has bottomed out. Put the new one where he already sleeps, old blanket on top, and give him a fortnight. If he still won't, it comes back inside the 100 nights and you're refunded in full.

She's started having the odd accident. Is it waterproof?

Where this bed has a waterproof inner liner, it's listed under "Why the bed" above, and the liner sits between cover and foam so an accident stops before the core. Where it doesn't, the cover comes off and washes and the care guide shows how to protect the foam. Either way, a second cover means one is always on the bed.

    Can I wash it?

Where the cover comes off, it washes following the care label sewn into it. Coated covers wipe clean. Foam is never machine washed. See the care guide.

Can I really send something this big back?

Yes. Inside the 100 nights, tell us and we arrange collection free from the UK mainland, slept on, hair and all, and refund every penny. You don't need to find a box that fits.

    When will it arrive?

The dates for an order placed today are above the button. Own stock is dispatched in 1 to 2 working days and delivered 1 to 2 working days later. Free UK delivery.
