Our Foam

Every bed we make is a cover, a liner and a core. The core is the part that decides whether the bed is still doing its job in year five.

Most dog beds are sold on how they look and how they feel in the first week. Both of those are set by the cover. What decides whether the bed is still worth having in year five is the block of foam underneath it, and almost nobody tells you what that block is.

So here is ours. Every PawLunova memory foam bed is built on a 50kg/m³ high-density core, CertiPUR-US certified, wrapped in a waterproof liner and finished with a cover that zips off and washes at 30°C. The page below shows what that number does over eighteen months, and what happens to the beds that skip it.

Density is how much foam is actually in the foam. It is the number that decides which of these three your bed becomes.

Density measures how much material is packed into every cubic metre. A low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six, because feel and structure are not the same thing. A 50kg/m³ core keeps its shape under a dog's weight put on it in the same place, night after night, which is why we can guarantee the foam for five years.

What owners ask about the foam.

It's the density of the foam – how much material is packed into every cubic metre. Density isn't the same as firmness: a low-density foam can feel firm on day one and still collapse by month six. High-density foam keeps its structure under repeated weight, which is why a 50kg/m³ core is still supporting your dog's hips and elbows years later. It's also why we can put a 5-year guarantee on it.

CertiPUR-US is an independent certification programme for flexible polyurethane foam. Foam that carries it has been tested by an accredited laboratory for content, emissions and durability. It is the same standard used across human mattresses, and it is the reason we can tell you what is inside the bed rather than asking you to take our word for it.

Our beds are vet-informed and built to distribute weight so that pressure isn't concentrated on hips, elbows and shoulders – which is what makes lying down and getting back up harder for dogs with joint wear. A bed isn't a treatment, and it won't replace veterinary care, so please keep talking to your vet. What it can do is change the surface they spend fourteen hours a day on. Owners of older dogs are the ones who write to us most.

It sits between the cover and the foam. Wet coats, muddy paws and accidents stop at the liner rather than soaking into the core, which is what turns a bed sour long before the foam gives out. The cover zips off over the top of it and machine-washes at 30°C.
